TALENTS AND SPECIAL ABILITIES
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]RESEARCH SKILLS:
Gideon's research skills are impressive to say the least. He's always had a taste for learning since he was a kid, and was the best at the research projects due to his ability to flip through books and find the information needed. With computers now, and his own history at hunting and possession, Gideon is that weird freak in the back of the library looking through old books and surfing the web for connections and possibilities. He can track credit cards and flip through old records like they are nothing (Though the microform/microfiche can make him seasick), but what he can't find with all of his skills is any record of his baby sister.
Also he keeps meticulous notes that some refer to as OCD like. Maybe in someways he is but Gideon uses them for his own purposes.
DISAPPEARING:
Because of his background with being a demon, Gideon does not get along well with other hunters. Perhaps its the personal guilt he carries around inside of him or perhaps he's nervous of retribution for the fact that he killed several other hunters while he was a demon. He's quick to get out of town after he's done a job and he's also quick to vanish if he sees another hunter on the scene. Some can call it PTSD but he always keeps an eye on the exits and knows multiple escape routes. Gideon knows how to slip away in a crowd, but he also at times can't be as stealthy as he likes. He knows people probably see him before he sees them. Still it's easy to slip away without being cornered for questions.
LANGUAGES:
Coming from a long history of being an autodidact type of person, Gideon has many self taught languages under his belt. While he knows the general phrases of Russian, Spanish and Latin, he was never officially taught these languages so the accents are wrong and he may use the wrong verb usage on them. His French is spot on, due having used it since his freshman year in high school, but the rest are broken and by no means does Gideon call himself an expert. For each language he learns, Gideon will NEVER call himself an expert. He's always a beginner after all, one doesn't become an expert without years of training and traveling...not simply using "English to whatever" language books to learn how to decipher texts and question witnesses.
DEMONOLOGY/DEMONS:
Since his own possession, Gideon has made it his life's work to know as much as he can about demons. When he was a hunter yes he knew about the different levels between black eyes, red eyes and even yellow eyes demons. It was when he "retired" Gideon made sure that he knew what they were, how they were created, and their extensive background. He has a notebook filled with each type and even one the is filled with some sketchy information about the Knights of Hell. (As he's never met one he believes them to be simply legends...something demons use to make themselves look better)
He knows about legends such as the Colt and part of him believes its out there (not knowing that the Winchester's have it in their possession) and Ruby's knife. Other legends like using the bones seem plausible to him and Death's scythe. However, since he doesn't believe in angels due to the fact he's never met one (and for the record he doesn't believe in God but goes through the motions of being a good old Catholic boy when at church with his brother)he knows nothing about angel blades or any type of religious artifacts that can get rid of demons as well.
WEAPONS:
Gideon is not a gun expert. He KNOWS guns but not how to use different types or even what they are officially called by model type. He knows shotguns and how to use them and a select few hand guns. But he's good at knowing blades, ancient weapons (Due to his world traveling) and their like. He knows how to use them and how to care for them. This can help when he's hunting a God but rarely does it help when he's hunting a wendigo. Due this knowledge and his researching of demons, Gideon knows of fables that might kill demons. However they are simply just that FABLES.
WORLD CULTURES:
Since he was a boy, Gideon has been into traveling. Every summer, the Matthews family traveled around the states and that only fueled his desire to move around. If he wasn't a hunter, Gideon would be one of those underpaid travelers from a public Television travel shows. He's spent a year in France after high school with friends, and then traveled around the British Isles, China, and even Egypt. For Gideon its always been about exploring and learning the folklore. For him the knowledge obtained from traveling is the best thing ever. For him the traveling is an escape and something he enjoys to do. He knows how to blend in to their cultures and be the perfect guest.

POWERS AND VULNERABILITIES
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]While he's human, Gideon has all their powers and vulnerabilities. He also however suffers from a mild issue of self doubt that makes him cautious around other hunters.
REPUTATION
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]Gideon is proud to be considered a no one. He's far from the fame of Winchester or Harvelle and he LIKES that. However, there are a few that disapprove of his name and even a few that might want to kill him.
PERSONALITY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"]The first thing some notice about Gideon is that he suffers from an anxiety disorder. Its something he's suffered from all his life but being a meat suit made it worse. He would withdrawal in large groups if he was able to and even stammer a bit if he was in front of them. Gideon is always overthinking everything to the point where he can literally cripple himself with anxiety and knowing that he might have said the wrong thing. He can be filled with thoughts that people might not actually have, such as him being a ticking time bomb and unable to understand a simple teasing joke. But what Gideon may lack because of his anxiety is made up with his heart. His anxiety mainly is noticed by what is known as skin picking, which basically means he picks at his skin and makes wounds or picks at his hangnails.
Gideon has according to his sister the biggest heart that she has ever seen. He will give the shirt off of his back in order to help a friend and prior to his becoming a meat suit, Gideon did have a large circle of hunters that he was a researcher for. He will give many whatever information he has and when he was tutoring he was quick to give whatever information his “kids” were asking for. Part of him wants to be able to be this man, the one who will help those around him but after everything he's been in, Gideon knows that he can't really embrace him.
Intelligent, Gideon suffers from PTSD and a mild case of agoraphobia. There are days where he can't get himself to get out of the hotel rooms he stays in unless he forces himself and then there are days where he feels like he's normal. Thanks to his being possessed by a demon, Gideon doesn't see the world in shades of black and white. He sees them in shades of gray and knows that people do come back from the darkness, even though the monsters still hang on. Prior to his becoming a meat suit, Gideon was known for being willing to help other hunters if they asked. Some of these connections he's kept since he started his search for Molly and these same connections have been his eyes and ears in the learning of demons. He's however a liar to a majority of them, not willing to tell them the truth about what happened to him.
Ashamed. Cautious. Determined. These are the core root of Gideon now. He's determined to find a way to help his sister but at the same time he's not willing to simply hide from the signs around him. Gideon knows they are all connected and its his job and his job alone to figure it out.

HISTORY
[attr="class","fbidossiertxtboxy"] He's born into a simple family and is known as a nerd. The geek. In truth he spends most of his childhood with his face stuck in a book reading the classics while his brother and sister are the athletic and creative ones. For Gideon it doesn't bother him that much even if he's picked on by the other kids. In his mind, Gideon always dreamed of the worlds around him. While his parents insisted on school, he never fully accepted the vision of him enjoying the dances or anything else. He saw himself out in the world, learning by living. Instead of college, Gideon saw himself going around the world with a simple backpack. While his brother, Jacob, didn't understand and avoided hanging with his brother as much as possible it was his baby sister Molly that enjoyed being with her brother. If you looked back in the Matthews history, Molly clearly had her brother wrapped around her finger but Gideon didn't mind. She always called him her big brother and her friends never really teased him for the stammer or his not wanting to be around the large groups. No, they left that for Jacob and his crew.
Graduating from high school, Gideon did as he said he would and went overseas. Traveling first to France, Gideon did what he always said he would. He dropped himself into the culture and became one of their own. After three months, he traveled to Spain and then Germany while living off the money that he would have used for college. While he lived mainly out of a backpack and refused to compare himself to Rick Steves, Gideon was happy. Postcards went to his family from everywhere and soon Gideon ended up in Russia and was running out of money. Finally deciding to return home, it was winter when he returned to Nantucket and crashed on his sister's couch.
Forced back into the real world, Gideon got a job as a translator and tutor for high school kids merely trying to get a simple grade. Under pressure from his parents, Gideon goes back to school, taking night classes but discovering that there's nothing really interesting for a man who wants to travel. Life goes on and Gideon merely stock piles money for traveling. Sure his brother tells him to grow up finally and get a real job, and become a regular person. Molly never told him to grow up though and Gideon was thankful for that.
Molly was the one that introduced him to the supernatural. Nearly ready to go back into traveling, Molly asked for Gideon's help. Curious as to her god daughter's sudden change of behavior, Molly had to plead for Gideon to help. Due to their relationship, Gideon reluctantly agreed and soon was investigating what was making Molly's friend sick. Admitting that the world was new to him, Gideon was quick to be assumed as the creature by another hunter. Quick to make himself useful, Gideon buried himself in research and discovered that they were up against a changeling. Fighting to help Molly's friend, Gideon was there when the hunter who he had been so quick to team up with was killed by a changeling protecting the nest. Fighting and determined to get away from the creature with the kids he had found, Gideon was saved by Molly. Together they set fire to the creature and the Matthews siblings became interested in the supernatural.
Together they learned how to fight and everything they could about hunting. Weapons and everything was opened to them and the Matthew children went on in attempts to save the world. That changed when they went on to take care of a demon. It seemed open and shut until Gideon started to realize lost time and there were deaths of hunters around them. Their only clue was always a simple message: ““How many sheep can the wolf slaughter before he's put down?” Possessed Gideon knocked Molly out and then disappeared. As a demon he was quick to make his trail disappear but enjoyed thinning the crowds of hunters. Somewhere allies to Gideon and Molly, others were ones that he'd never met. But what Gideon does remember is being possessed by a Black Eyed that loved to kill.
It went on for months, until Molly set a trap for him. Not aware that his baby sister was hunting him, Gideon was captured in a devil's trap and after a lengthy and brutal exorcism, the demon was kicked out. Collapsing from the ordeal, Gideon was taken to Jacob's who agreed to protect his brother while he was recovering. After all, who knew how many hunters would be looking for Molly while she protected her brother. He recovers, even though he's tormented by memories and dreams of being a demon and then drops the bombshell to Molly. He's retiring from hunting and staying in Nantucket with Jacob. Molly attempts to do the same, after all Gideon is her partner, but after a while Gideon spirals down into drinking. This time it's Jacob, who stays while Molly returns to the hunting world. Its Jacob and Jacob's family that picks him back up from the rock bottom and helps Gideon learn that starting over isn't so bad. They get him to stop drinking, stop the self guilt and slowly he is accepted back by Molly. But his anxiety tricks his brain into telling him that they all see him as one thing. “A ticking bomb” and it's a comment he will never ask the others about.
He withdrawals from everything, even taking several months to even reintroduce the idea of going outside of his brother's house, before going back to the life he was living prior to becoming a hunter. Tutoring a few kids here and there, Gideon would still get emails from Molly about how she's hunting still (Part time) and occasionally pick his brain. It's probably because of her meddling and reminding him of that life that makes Gideon remain interested in only one topic.
Demons.
He begins to notice the signs, like most hunters do, mainly through the things Molly sends him but Gideon doesn't return to hunting. She tries to get him into it but Gideon is merely a researcher now. He fills notebooks full of things on demons and to him somethings don't make sense. He's so blind that he doesn't recognize his own demons bleeding through. That is until he gets a call from the Vegas police about Molly's hunting partner, Evan. Forcing himself to fly out there, Gideon discovers that his sister is missing and Evan was slaughtered. He knows it to be a hunter problem something he doesn't want to take part of until he gets a simple email.
“How many sheep can the wolf slaughter before he's put down?”
Forcing himself back into that world, Gideon returns to hunting. However while his main mission is to find his sister and return the favor of freeing her from the demon, Gideon is also noticing the signs. There's a bigger fight coming and deep down he's not sure if he'll be ready to help anyone.
