[RULES]
"No drinking, no gambling, no pre-marital sex. Dean, they basically just outlawed 90% of your personality."
- Sam Winchester
[REGISTRATION]
Hello and welcome to On The Road. We're glad you're thinking of joining us. The first thing you'll need to do - after reading these rules - is register an account. Your username can be whatever you like, but your display name should be your character's first and last name in proper capitalization (example: Sam Winchester, not SAM WINCHESTER or sam winchester). If your character goes by a nickname more often than their real first name you can use that instead, if you like. So if your character's name is Mark Smith but everyone calls him 'Tank' then you can register as Tank Smith.
Demons and Angels don't have surnames in the show, so characters of those types may have a single name. Example: Castiel, Ruby, Uriel, Crowley
[APPLICATIONS]
Everyone needs to fill out an application for their character before they can post IC. These applications will be reviewed by staff as soon as possible, but please allow at least two days before you start asking about the status of your application. If there are any changes that need to be made before it can be accepted, the staff will notify you in a reply to your application. You may begin posting as soon as your application is accepted.
Canon applications will be scrutinized closely to ensure the player is able to portray the character properly. Staff reserves the right to take any canon away from a player if the player is causing said canon to act too out of character. (This has never happened, and hopefully it never will.)
Dropped canon rule - if you drop a canon due to inactivity, especially if you do it more than once, we reserve the right to refuse you any other canons until you maintain another character through an activity check period.
Original Characters may not have any relation to canons without admin permission. Also the permission of the canons in question. So no long lost cousins, illegitimate children, etc. We encourage players to be creative and not try to tie their OCs to the canons somehow. The canons aren't the center of the universe, and there is plenty of opportunity for Original Characters to play big roles.
No crossover characters. OTR isn't a multifandom site.
At present there is no limit on the number of characters you can create, but you have to stay active with all of them. Don't take on more than you can handle! If this becomes an issue we may impose a character limit. There may also be restrictions on the types of characters you can create if we see a certain type dominating the board.
[POSTING]
We don't enforce a word count here. However, we do expect quality from each post. When posting, ask yourself the following questions:
- Does my post advance the thread in a meaningful way?
- Does my post give the other players in the thread something substantial to respond to?
If the answer to each question is 'yes', then that is the type of post we like to see.
Please spellcheck all your posts.
When starting a thread, please add a timestamp to the first post so we can establish a timeline of events. During a thread, if a day passes or the characters move to a new city/state, please add another timestamp to the relevant post.
It goes without saying that there's no godmoding, powerplaying or metagaming here. Remember that your character isn't all-seeing, all-knowing, or all-powerful. A hunter can't instantly know somebody is a vampire upon first meeting with no evidence, for example. Play fair!
[PLAGIARISM]
We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to plagiarism in posts and in applications. The entire point of roleplaying is to do your own writing; to take someone else's work and pass it off as your own is a cardinal sin. If you're caught ripping off the work of someone else, you will be removed from the game.
[ACTIVITY]
We think a post a week per character is a reasonable level of activity. However, as we do not monitor activity on that much of a micro level, that's more of a suggestion than a rule. Instead, every so often we will hold activity checks. During these checks, you are required to meet the minimum posting requirement for that month. Further details will be given during the activity check.
[MATURE CONTENT]
Explicit sexual content is prohibited in accordance with the Proboards terms of service. If you find a thread delving into 'smut' territory then you're going to have to employ the fade-to-black technique or take it off-site.
Violence and profanity is fair game. However, if you get into particularly gruesome detail, please be considerate and add a warning to the thread title. Some people might be a little squeamish.

[OOC CONDUCT]
We expect everyone, admin or player, to treat each other with courtesy and respect. There is a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of hostility, insults, or personal attacks between two members of the board. If you're being harassed by another member, please PM an admin. And, really, if you have any concerns at all about the board please talk to an admin. We want to make sure that we're running the best game possible and that everyone is having a good time. Don't ever feel like you can't talk to us about some aspect of the board.
[CBOX RULES]
OTR has a chatbox which can be found at the bottom of the page. The Cbox is to be used for friendly chatting. Please, no arguing in the Cbox. If you have a complaint or issue, bring it up with a polite PM to an admin.
[WELCOME!]
Thank you for reading the rules. We hope you enjoy yourself here at On The Road!
